Memories. Back in the late 1960s, our college newspaper had one of those IBM mag tape composer systems. Submitting an essay paper that was left/right justified with proportional spacing, (and italics and bold) would wow the teacher and could be worth an extra letter grade. The Selectric would pause for you to swap in italic and bold type balls.
Wow, an MT/ST. Those are extraordinarily rare. Like "I've not heard of
any of them surviving in the wild" rare. Also, I think I saw someone
either on the Classiccmp mailing list or Discord server that was
looking for a magtape Selectric control unit.
Of course, the same magtape unit was used with the Magnetic Tape
Selectric COmposer, which is an even more rare beast (the Selectric
Composer was proportionally spaced, not fixed pitch like a regular
typewriter).
