The RO does not need any of the keyboard stuff but you can simply bypass it by shorting out/jumpering the keyboard portion if you built it.
Or eliminate it all together I made my own modified version of the board just for RO's with none of the TX.

I've build dozens of them. You just state "it doesnt work" so not much to go by....
Does it run OPEN? 
If it does NOT run open are you saying it will not space or tx any data?
Are you saying its prints but doesn't print correctly?
All of those could be "doesn't work" 

Help us to help you ;-) A photo of the offending board and wiring  might help too. Most who have built them can spot a mis-wire.
