I agree with Harold 100 percent. Before I do major work on any teletype, I pull the power plug and the loop plug.

The plugs always come out before the cover comes off, then, if necessary, I plug it back in for a few minutes to observe the operation. They come back out again before I stick my hands in it. I can always turn the motor by hand.
