He fell over and they threw him out.
In morse end of message is ar this is written as a cross or plus sign when it's written.  A normal telegram would not include it.
I am not sure of the word stop meaning a period.  Stop may be used as a more definite version of s period because the word count on which the charge is based counts a period as one word, so they are they are the same.
Perhaps it should be pointed  out that ar meaning of message is not the same as SK  meaning end of work  i.e. "that's all there is , there isn't any more".  Thos is from the old western union 92 code. The number 30 meaning eng of work.  Sent after a group of messages.
And now that's all folks. Out

Subject: [GreenKeys] Is it STOP or STOP END?

There was a TV program shown in Oz recently, where a telegram was shown as
"blah blah STOP blah STOP" etc; yes, I know the reason for the "STOP".

But shouldn't it have ended in "STOP END" to indicate the end of the
message?

And don't get me started on Hollywood's "over and out" nonsense...

Over: I have ceased transmission and I expect a reply.

Out: I have ceased transmission and I do not expect a reply.

Over and Out: You tell me...  On at least one net I replied with "Are you
over or are you out?", to much merriment.
