Kevin,

You do not need to get internet out to your barn to work on Teletypes.

All you need is to get a loop out there. I do not know what your
distance is. My Radio Building is about 100 feet from my house.
I bury thin wall plastic water pipe to pull wires through. I like them
underground where they are at least partially shielded from lightning
surges.

I am lucky enough to have three of these surplus 16-jack panels.
Each horizontal row is one loop. They are all 2-conductor jacks.
I wire them together with cat-5 so each row jacks on all are the
same loop. I also like to always make the tip positive.

Before I got one cleaned , painted and re-wired for the cellar, I used a
home brew two loop panel. Again, each row of lacks was one loop.
I wired it with 4-conductor stranded thermostat wire from eBay.
In addition I had a 3-jack panel on a local loop supply for testing.
I constantly use my meter mounted in a Lowe's plastic electrical box.
It can be patched to any loop.

The 16 jack panel has 2-circuit jacks. The next two home brew ones
are 3-circuit jacks. I also make them with 2-circuit jacks and insulators.
It is a nuisance to mix both types of jacks. It is better to decide at the
outset which you want and stick with it. Of course the 3-circuit jacks
are safer, but that may mean changing the plugs on all your teletypes.
And in my case I could not use the 2-circuit 16-jack patch panels.
So I have a lot of adapter boxes and cables.

The final step is to have the TU(s) where you have the internet. I have two
Heathkit HD 3030's. The bottom one (connected to the bottom rows of jacks)
used to be ITTY news. It is now on my news stream. The top one (connected
to the next rows of jacks) used to be Autostart. It is now my TTY Artwork
stream. Since the computers that generates them are right here, I grab the
streams from the headphone jacks.

It is not a big deal to pull two streams from the internet with one computer.
if any one is interested, I will explain it.

It is also fairly easy to pull wires through long pipes. A friend, who is now
a silent key, showed me how to do it. I can explain that too if anyone is
interested.

Ii hope this helped someone.
