FWIW, a while back there was someone who worked around obsolete batteries. I don't recall his name, but I remember I bought one to replace a battery in a  mil night vision goggle. Worked like a charm.

Anyone remember his name or URL address? Or if this is even what you are looking for??

I don't know what batteries it wants but I have had some
success in making up batteries from available cells. For example
I have a TS-352 which requires three 4.5V batteries. I replaced
these with three cell holders, each holding three AA cells. I got
the holders from Radio Shack but have seen similar ones
elsewhere. They fit into the space provided for the original
batteries. I fastened them in with double stick tape. This works
very well and I suspect the cells will last for many years. I
also built an adaptor for a General Radio null indicator which
originally used mercury cells. Enough room inside to fit it in.
Perhaps you could make up something for this classic that would
bring it back to life. Batteries are probably for the ohm meter
function and should not be too critical.
BTW, the TS-352 (I think the meter is an ME-9) has been
useful because it has both a 1000 ohm/volt divider and a 20,000
ohm/volt divider string in it. The 1000 ohm/volt function is
useful for some equipment where the voltage charts were made up
with a low resistance meter, for instance the Hammarlund
SP-600-JX. The charts specify a Weston Meter that I had some
trouble looking up. Sure enough its a 1000 ohm/volt meter. One
can use a 20K ohm/volt meter for the radio but many of the
voltages will read high.
