i-Telex can be a lot of fun. I’ve had short messages back and forth (like messaging on the phone), short chats and rag chews. The length of the conversation is measured against the paper consumed, which is kind of cool. It’s like RTTY with autostart and point to point and no radio needed, no fade-outs, no interruptions.

And a completely faithful recreation of the old Telex network down to interface hardware signaling. Dial someone and have a conversation (type) or leave a message. Software defined telex!

You can even place an order for a real telegram to be mailed to a postal address.

as i have developed the i-Telex system i shall correct something:
 
The interface board to the ethernet perform the serial-to-parallel conversion of the 5 bits and vice versa. So the ethernet board is generally capable of performing in any speed. To be precise, the speed must be an integer fraction of 900, so speeds of 45 baud, 50 baud, 75 baud, 100 baud and 150 baud are possible.
 
The current software version even allows to switch the speed between the mentioned valued depending on the actual connection.
