Are these anything like motion picture or recording tape reels?

There were also some tape winders made by J. H. Bunnell.  The ones I'm
familiar with are small reels, like about 5 inch diameter and powered
by a wind-up spring like a clock spring.  This was probably big enough
to hold a day's production in a smallish Western Union office.
