Thanks for the advice. I am still learning the correct terms for the devices on this thing.

I am glad you like the color. I think I will call the machine "Pink Floyd" from now on.

I have attached more photos of that "thing beside the left ribbon spool"

I doesn't seem to be doing anything. It has some sort of "holder" on it. Like something is supposed to slip into the holder, don't know what though. It also has some rollers/bushings that look like a ribbon or tape should go through them, but nothing does.

I am going to start going through the manuals you suggest and hopefully learn more about teletypes
