I do that a great deal, with wide and varied results. I connect my computer to the modem with an ethernet cable, and have a switch in the line that physically disconnects the cable.  I also usually disconnect the ethernet before I close Firefox, which is also set up to clear all cookies and history when I close it. Likewise for Zoom meetings.
