Do you suppose the purpose for the keyboard reperf vs. perforator
was to lower the cost vs. buying a mounted dome reperforator in
addition to having the keyboard perforator. It would be
interesting to know if Teletype or any of the customers that had
the keyboard reperforator had a method of avoiding simultaneous
operation of the selector magnet and the mechanical linkage?
In addition to the previously mentioned chad chute modifications for ASR cabinet, I've seen mod kits to convert from chadless to fully perforated. I don't recall if they were in the docs for the standard reperforator, the standard perforator or other document and it's too late to go back and look tonight.
(FYI fully perforated seems to be Teletypes terminology for toilet lid-less tape)

Repeat after me - ASR reperf selector magnets ARE NOT CONNECTED to the rest of the ASR.This is true for keyboard reperf selector magnets and also for a dome reperf's selector magnets.
You can hook them up externally however you like but there is NO internal interconnection to the keyboard/printer/TD.
Seriously, the ASR was mainly intended to use a keyboard perf, not a reperf - If you have a keyboard reperf you need to make sure you aren't simultaneously trying to punch tape via the keyboard mechanical linkage and also via the selector magnet. In K mode the reperf can run from a completely different loop than the ASR's keyboard, TD, and typing unit.
The intent of a using a reperf was that you could be receiving some separate message to the reperf from loop 1 while you are conversing on loop 2 using the keyboard/printer, then later transmit that punched message on loop 2 using the TD. With a dome reperf, you can even receive from loop 1 at a different speed than loop 2.

______________________________________________________________Hi again friends. KE3BK mentions that Mr. RTTY (Paul) thinks that M28ASRs never came with full chad reperfs (meaning the one connected to the keyboard, not the under dome reperf). Is there anyone on this list who can confirm/deny this? Does anyone have an ASR with a full chat (punched holes) reperf next to the keyboard?

If no one has an ASR like this, then maybe hes right. SOOOOO my next question is, what is involved in installing an under dome reperf? And does anyone have a spare one of these (full chad?) I assume this is just switched in and out of the loop? If an ASR has both a keyboard reperf and an underdome, are they on the same loop? Is there a use case where they are both reperforating the same incoming message?
