Eric,

A quick answer and more tomorrow if you want.

You can use a 1 amp fuse in the tape reader circuit card.

I guess you have the circuit drawings so I will get back again.

Hello Everyone,

Since early December, I’ve been working to restore one and a half Model 33’s that I picked up from Tim C. at his Byte Shop in Jamaica Plain. (Amazing place!) One and a half because the second one is basically a parts machine in fairly rough shape that’s missing its keyboard. Maybe I’ll get it to an RO-ish state. The first machine is pretty much up and running after a little work with the exception of the tape reader. (And sometimes a sticky bit 2 on reception).

The problem with the reader is that it’s blowing the F1 3/4A 200V fuse on the reader circuit card, so it doesn’t have power to the solenoid. The cards from both machines are doing this. I’ve checked for dead diodes (found one in the rectifier on one board, CR3), and none of the caps are shorted. Most resistor values are decent enough. I’m working to reform the C1 capacitors. The reader solenoid seems ok; it reads at 100 ohms.

The dead fuse that was in the machine was a 3/4A fast acting, so that’s what I’ve been burning through at a pretty good clip. However, the wiring diagrams package drawing 6353WD indicates that it should be a slow blow. Is that correct?

Eric
