Long before the days of "soldier proof" communications gear, there was what this film describes as "one of the smallest radio teletypewriter units available for tactical communications", the AN/GRC-46, and it came with its own 3/4 ton truck. Anyone who has visited the Antique Wireless Museum in Bloomfield NY has seen an operational AN/GRC-46B on display, which has part of the shelter cut away for easier viewing. The AN/GRC-46 series was a tactical, transportable, Radio Teletype (RATT) station, designed to be mounted on the M-37 series 3/4 ton truck. The AN/GRC-46 series was initially fielded in 1958 and was used up into the 1980s. Army Reserve and National Guard units used them into the 1990s. In 1963 the US Army made this instructional film to familiarize radio operators with the AN/GRC-46 : https://youtu.be/nVYF72Xn9qc Mark ~ AE2EA
