Mike,
ACARS is a simple text burst similar to RTTY.
My handheld will decode the generic ACARS ATC ATIS and WEATHER broadcasts and it does have the capability to enter the aircraft ID and decode aircraft specific messages, it will not TX/Send ACARS.
So yea the 2400 baud ACARS can be sent to a teletype with a baud rate and ascii baudot conversion.
I'll have to mess about with the FLDIGI that Jeff suggested and see if it fits my needs...
If not I may tear apart the hand held and see if I can find where the data is decoded and make an interface to the handheld as an interim.
