[GreenKeys] Telephone opportunity in the same spirit as teletype

While my interest in this group is on Model 15 teletypes, I thought I’d share the following which many here may also find of interest:

Sunday, October 4th  will be the next operating session of The Operators Network from 0600-2359 CDT.  Reach the operator by dialing (402) 402-0121, from C*Net by dialing 1-231-1111 then dialing a 0, or From PhreakNet simply dial 0.

Join us as we recreate the Long Distance experience of mid 20th Century pre-Operator Toll Dialing.  Calls will be handled through vintage cord boards and other connections with live operators between London and LA, and across the U.S.A. before reaching the called number.  

With Operators in London, Cornwall, Maine, Ft. Myers, Omaha, Oklahoma City, LA, and other locations we are able to extend calls from the “Local” operator who answers, through “Long Distance” and finally to an Inward operator.

The session provides a perfect and enjoyable opportunity not only to exercise vintage telephone equipment, but also to experience a new dimension to ordinary calls between mobile phones.

There will also be a conference bridge available for great conversation and discussion of all things telephonic.

By dialing the Operator access number, the door is opened to the entire hobbyist phone network, and to the full services of The Operators Network, include the ability to call a friend on on their phone with the call routed through a manual cord board in London.  The over and back across the Atlantic is quite a novelty!  The best part is it’s free.
