Probably because there are no simple answers, just if this, then that,,,

You probably need different cables for the TU-170.

You need to check out the TTY out before you use it.
They will probably need cleaning and adjustment. If they have not been
used for some time this can be a lot of work.
If they are "new old stock" so never used this will be a lot of work.
I would start by checking it works locally, so what you type is received
for which you need the TU-170, then use the TU-170 to decode known good
tones from either internet teletype via ITTY or usig the MMTTY program.

Never done a Teletype TTY only Creed which are slightly different but I
can´t see what else you would need.
Normally if being used over hard wired circuits rather than RTTY you use
the RA-17 to provide the power to operate the selector magnets in the TTYs,
In this case its not needed as the  TU-170 has a built-in loop supply.

According to the manual it will run from DC or various AC frequencies so
if the switches are correctly set it can be run from normal mains.
looks like its 90 watts so under 1amp but starting current will be more.

So you have two types of power. Motor Supply that runs the motors and a
Loop Supply which operates the receive magnets in the TTYs.
So provided the switches are set correctly you can simply run the motors
from normal US mains.

The loop supply needs to be DC and in normal use the RA-87 to generate
this supply, but if you are using the TU-170 that has a built in loop
supply so you don't need the RA-87.
Is the jack box separate or a part of some other item. I don´t see it
mentioned above.
