Early production Teletype BRPE punches had a window over the mechanism so you could see the eccentric doing its thing. Late production punches omitted this.
I have 2 BRPEs, one that has been mined for spare parts, so I have a spare cover. Both covers are late production, which is to say windowless.
Has anyone got an early BRPE with a window. The parts list identifies the window as
142989 Window, Plastic
I suspect it's just a chunk of plexiglass, and I'd be really tempted to cut a hole in my spare punch cover and mount a piece of plexiglass there because a window would make the machine a bit more interesting during demos.
But, before imagining doing that, I'd need to know what holds the window in place. I have no clue about that. If someone has a BRPE with a window, I'd really like to have some detailed photos, both a dead-on front view of the cover with a ruler in the photo, and a rear view of the inside of the cover detailing the mounting.
Does anyone have a BRPE with a window, or know of a museum with a BRPE with a window?
