The news feeds are pulled from the sources (NPR, CNN, CSM) every couple
hours. The articles articles are reformatted to clean ASCII (including
word wrap). This is then converted to baudot with the msb set if the
character is in the figs set and clear if it is in the ltrs character set.
Currently the required figs and ltrs are inserted in the software uart
that drives the dds tone generator. I COULD move that conversion to
earlier so there is a ready to print baudot file.
As noted earlier, the audio is a large PCM audio file with 8 bits per
sample (unsigned) at 8,000 samples per second. latest.php sends a redirect
to the browser to point to the latest wav file. For NPR, there is
latestt.php, which is experimental. It directly returns the WAV file
instead of doing a redirect. Finally, the subdomain plaintext.w6iwi.org
allows for unencrypted transfers. Unencrypted PCM SHOULD make the client
software (an http client) pretty simple.
