At one time the CAA had a box of relays called ASID for Automatc
Station Identificaion Device.  These were used on weather circuits
to insure that the station location identifier was tramsmitted
correctly and at the right time.  This was one use of the many-wire
XD.  which also had a "tape withold" magnet so the tape would not
be advanced while the distributor was sending characters from some
other source such as ASID.
