Ah yeah — the punch does need 1A (the magnets take 4 henrys I think?). I have my 19 on two separate supplies — the perforator & 14TD run on a 120VDC 1A supply and the loop on the same type, but brought down to 60mA via a resistor. I figured by separating the two out, there was less of a chance for some sparks if something went unhappy.

Going back to the teeth — as I recall, the speed shouldn’t matter — they should separate no matter what. When I got my first 19, the teeth were totally frozen shut. It took a lot of lubricating and some light tapping with a screwdriver/hammer, to get them to separate all the way properly. If one turns the shaft slowly, it’s really fascinating watching every part do its job… so double check and make sure that there isn’t hidden gunk keeping things from separating all the way.

I admit that I'm not as experienced as most of these guys on the list and my memory fades a lot more than it did when I was younger, but this is just what I think I remember — take it for what you will.

> Nope not good but as mentioned it may be due to moving the parts too slowly. With the keyboard removed, press a key and then try spinning the distributor shaft really fast with your fingers. There's a cam & pawl arrangement that should throw the meshed teeth apart just by a little bit.
