I have had this machine for around 15 years. It has the AN/UGC-136AX
tag on the front and a 504V tag on the back. I bought one of the
milspec power connectors and made up a power cable yesterday. I did a
down and dirty re-inking of the ribbon that was in the machine. I fired
it up and got it to work . . . for awhile. I could type on the
keyboard, do a self-test, and some other things. Then things started
getting "flaky". It would occasionally stop in the middle of my typing
and the "Bell" would sound continuously and all the panel lights would
light up. It would stop letting me type on the keyboard. I could
sometimes get it to resume working by operating the Master Clear switch
(sometimes several times) but then it would freeze up again. I
approached it as if it were an old computer (which I suppose it is) and
would disconnect the power and then turn on the power switch and hold
the Master Clear switch for several seconds. Eventually that stopped
clearing it. It now seems to be in a constant "frozen" state with the
bell sounding and the panel lights on. Has anyone else with a similar
machine experienced anything like this? Could it be a sensor that needs
cleaning? I have not opened up the compartment with the boards but
wondered if removing the boards and cleaning the contacts and sockets
might help. Are there capacitors on the boards that might go bad and
cause this behavior? I first thought that perhaps I did not do a good
job making the power cable but the power seems constant; there are no
ups and downs with the power.
Thanks,
