I'm not authoritative on any of that, but you know the UGC-74 was made in
some different models.  Originally a line printer drum style of machine,
then going to dot matrix.

I think this started out as a project at Teletype in the 1950s, a drum
printer machine which at the time required a lot of thyratrons to make
it operate.  Teletype Corp. was supposesdly not interested in pursuing
the design so the Signal Corps turned to Kleinschmidt Laboratories.
Which developed a working printer but the Signal Corps had bought the
rights to make it and turned to other makers.  Kleinschmidt did have
a printer based on that technology in their catalog.

The original UGC-74 printers had a problem with the material chosen
for the paper feed rollers turning to goo.  So if you have one of those
it will take a lot of cleaning to get it to work, then replace the
roller material with rubber hose.  The later models with dot matrix
have the drawback of requiring an unobtainable ribbon cartridge.
