[GreenKeys] Model 28 - filter/cap blew?

Can anyone tell me what this is? Assuming a cap? Its on a model 28 KSR, was running it (outside thankfully) and naturally I walked away for a minute and heard it stop. Came out and smoke was pouring out and machine died.

I also assumed the worst that this stuff is toxic so I didnt touch it; put the lid back on and reassembled for now.
