[GreenKeys] 28 motor repair

A motor I've been using for several years on my RO base as a work
station runs smooth and I had no complaints except the motor leads come
out the side of the "basement" instead of the top of it. That means
threading the lead through the back side slots of the base.

So I'm adding a 28LD to the RO base and am about complete it and getting
ready to install in a cabinet.  I decided to fix the routing of the
motor leads.  Took the motor off the craddle so I could get the
"basement" cover and pull the motor leads back and then out the hole in
the cover.  I notice that over the years some oil and grease had settled
in the bottom of the base.  As I'm ready to re-assemble, I push on the
wire that come from the motor to the over-current red button.  About an
inch of the insulation crumbles and now it's in danger of touching one
of the terminals on the start relay.  Of course that wire goes into the
motor itself.

So, should I buy some of the fancy wire used as motor leads and re-do
the wires on the motor myself.  Or take it to a motor shop and let them
do it for a lot of dollars.  Are they gonna talk me into bearings and
some other extra things, ya know just in case?

I've seen the insides of perhaps a 100 5-200 HP motors over the years
and those wouldn't scare me, but I suspect this little 1/20 HP might be
a little more challenging.

Any experiences to share or suggestions.

What happened to those motors that were on craig's list or ebay a few
years back?  Seems like someone was going to rescue them, but can't
recall who.
