If that's what it is, I would say that was Teletype's last successful
all-mechanical product. While it is called Model 28 it actually uses
Model 37 technology. I guess AT&T wanted to keep the Model 37 number
clean forthe then-forthcoming Model 37 page printer set. The previous
stock ticker line was the 1930s black cube typewheel machine. These
were too slow for the volume of stock trades around 1960, so the NYSE
commissioned Teletype to produce a new model that was 50% faster.
Model 37 used an aggregate-motion mechanism that did not return the
type box to a home position between characters, so it looked very lazy
in operation. It ran at 900 characters/minute.
