I have a Teletype Model 33 with paper tape reader/punch that is free for
anyone who wants to pick it up in north-central Dallas (Preston Hollow).

I bought it several years ago, hoping to do something with it, but that just
never came together and now it's time to part ways.

When I first bought it did, it would turn on and you could type, but when it
got to the end of a line it would get stuck on auto-repeat. Subsequent to
that I separated the basic modules (keyboard, main unit, tape reader,
electronics), cleaned them with tuner cleaner (no facilities for immersion
cleaning), and then hit it with machine oil where it seemed appropriate.
Unfortunately, after re-assembling it now sticks on auto-repeat as soon as
it's turned on.

NOTE: I just plugged it in, and it does "fire up" in auto repeat, but the
hammer is no longer hammering. The carriage can be moved by hand, but the
spring return is slow - seems solvable with some touch-up clean/lube.

I imagine that it's completely serviceable by someone can work on these
things. Some of the springs in the main body are probably missing, since I
found several in the bottom pan, with a hook end missing. There is no
stand. I don't know if strictly table-top versions were produced, but
that's what this appears to be.

I also have a box of oiled tape and paper rolls that I'll toss in.

I'm not sure if I'll receive replies to the mailing list. If I'm slow in
responding, it's probably that I only get the digests. I can be reached
directly at chuckb at craniac.com
