Hello everyone who responded! Thank You!
I will try and respond here, I had it set to send digest versions, but am
not getting the digest version of the email list, I have changed it to
individual messages, so I hope to get individual messages now.
I'll respond in order:
Harold: I had a model 33 in high school, but didnt know what I had and did
not have it connected to anything, I just ran the rool of pre-punched tape
and was fascinated watching it print everything out. It was a list of names
and or accounts for something, never knew what. I was hooked, but it took
many years to understand what it would be good for!
The machine running with no loop current, sits and acts like it is typing,
but does not type, just spaces itself to the end of the carriage and sits
there kerchunking away. With loop current, it sits quietly with the motor
humming and spinning happily in the background.
John W9DDD, I have a synchronous motor, no black and white marks on the fan
(Not governed). I tested the unit with an optical tachometer and it is
running spot on at 1800 rpm give or take 1rpm once in a while.
Duncan K2OEQ, I have adjusted the spring tension to both extremes and it
does make a huge difference but I can't find one single spot where it works
perfectly. I have adjusted the coils spacing following the use of a stripof
bond paper to set the clearance of a mark cycle, it has helped but is not
quite there yet.
The motor speed does not change, the typing rate does, almost like it is
trying to catch up or let the character catch up with the mechanism., It is
not a steady chunk chunk chunk chunk, more of a chunk chunk chuuunk chunk
chunk.
Hanyou, Yep, I lubed those up and made sure the motor was spinning freely,
it has been tested with a tachometer and is right at 1800rpm as it should
be. The rear bearing is a little noisy, but does not seem to affect speed.
Tomhenryhunter Tom N3CRK, yes, mainshaft was oiled inside and out. The
felts were cleaned in naotha, to get a lot of the old oil out, and then
soaked with clean oil when reassembled. All oil cups were filled and then
refilled as needed. I would have put monel on the main shaft being the
cause after I saw the old grease and oil residue, but alas it was not.
Carriage is actually working great, and yes the return belt is a bugger!
learned my lesson with that! Need to find a carriage with the
communications type basket, mine is the weather type set....
I will look for the screw adjustment on the selector you mentioned, that
sounds like a possibility!
I will try your art stream for sure! Thank You!
abowman89, It's getting better gradually. The more I learn the better it
gets ;)
To All: I can type the entire keyboard to the printer without errors. This
tells me the keyboard and transmitter are OK and the printer and "decoder"
is OK, it has to be an adjustment on the selector or rangefinder. I will
look at the pin adjustment and see if that makes a difference. I can
almost get the whole test message in clear type, but there are enough
erroneous line feeds and carriage returns and wrong characters to keep
pushing forward with adjustments.
Thank You for all of your help, I will have more updates soon!
