Hello Greenkeyers,
I am looking to buy a Model 33 in working shape that I can connect to a
computer via RS-232. I know most of the fun is working on it and getting
it functional, but I've bought a few Model 33's from various online
auctions, and have been totally frustrated with the condition. It is very
hard for me to judge the condition, especially when not many pictures are
given. The last one I "won" from an auction in Indiana was in complete
shambles with cracked plastics everywhere... there wasn't even any
electronics in it at all, and not even the power switch had wires on it and
was propped against the chassis to cleverly take the pictures (it did have
a rotted/chewed power cord - yay!). But there were plenty of mouse
droppings and chewed mess. I was hoping to use parts from all my Model
33's to finally make a working one, but I can see that is not possible at
all.
So as my friend, Clint Eastwood once said, "A man's got to know his
limitations!" And I know mine! I have neither the know-how, enough good
parts, nor the time to lovingly get one working.
So... Is there anyone out there in the Midwest who would like to sell me a
working Model 33 (preferably with a paper tape puncher)? My plan is to use
it as a terminal for the 5ESS telecom switch I am building (hence you can
see why I have no extra time to work on the tty). I volunteer as the
Curator of the small telecommunications museum on Nokia's (formerly
AT&T/Bell Labs/Alcatel-Lucent/Lucent/Western Electric) campus outside
Chicago in my free time when I am not working at Nokia for my day job.
I plan on attending the Vintage Computer Fest VCF Midwest this weekend if
any GreenKeyers will be there. Even though Teletype was only 33 miles
from here, I never hear of any GreenKeyer around this area or are selling
any teletypes at all
I plan on being at the show probably Sunday. You'll be able to pick me out
in a crowd because I'll be wearing my bright red Lucent Technologies shirt
(send me an email at chuck at rehor.com). Say Hi!
Thanks a lot!
