After expanding to Colorado in the 60s' Hewlett Packard bought the 1300
acre "Hermit Park" (great initials) as a place for employee picnics and
other perks.   Several thousand HP employees were there for a picnic the
day of the Big Thomson Flood of 1976, but most were out of the canyon by
the time the wall of water came through, resulting in 144 deaths.
Hermit Park Open Space is now part of the Larimer County Park system.

Since most women did not work outside the home in those days I'm sure
the social clubs and events were powerful recruiting and retention tools.
