I remember reading about electrostatic deflection of ink drops in a
printer. As I recall (a LONG time ago), I think they used a piezo
transducer to generate a continuous stream of ink drops. These were
deflected to the proper location on the paper. If a particular drop was
not needed, it was deflected to a trough below the paper to be reused.

Again, I think the invention of the thermal driven ink jet was amazing!
