[GreenKeys] Astoria OR Teletype equip (again)

I have a dream of building a warehouse somewhere out here and storing parts and equipment originally destined for landfills for future distribution. Problem is even the most useless, worthless land out here is stupid expensive until you get a few hours away from my location with no electricity and often not even dirt access roads. One day I hope to do something like this, but it's a long way off if it ever happens. My intentions are of no use right now.

I built a small barn on my residential property for a similar purpose, but part of George's haul plus some smaller hauls from elsewhere have almost filled it up at this point.

When there are only a few hundred of us in the country and few to none can afford the temporal and monetary capital to store more than a few machines even if we want to, it's an uphill battle. Moth, rust, and thieves shall claim it all eventually.

And mice. Don't forget the mice.

My wife jokes that I could have gotten into stamps or coins that are light and small, but I just had to get into old comms equipment.

Like many, I'm sure I could find some room for a few machines to help handle this load, but I currently don't have a way to go out and get them. A countrywide road trip for distribution to GKers does sound pretty fun, though, if I simply had the time for such a long trip. If my kids were older, I'd take them with me and give them a great education on the way. Any chance the stuff can stay in the warehouse for 6 - 7 years instead of months? :)

We should be able to keep it in the warehouse for 6-7 months. I will keep everyone updated because we will definitely need a few people to move the stuff. I told him it could be 1-2 months before we could get it but it could be done.

I have also talked to Ira Moser who is up that way to see about moving it too. My parents have a warehouse and a 24’ box trailer. If it’s free then it might be worth it. After all this place isn’t to far from my parents warehouse, its just really far for me. Hihi. More to follow on Monday or Tuesday. This was the estate of David Ross.

George’s idea was that someone would rent a truck and drive across country dropping off equipment for everybody. That’s a nice idea, but who’s going to do that?
>>>

It was probably a big misunderstanding. Plus the guy wanted a lot of money. George’s effort ended after that and George said he’d never go near the place, he was out. What was this? 5 years ago? Maybe longer?

George was responsible for the distribution of all Pete’s teletype gear (there was a lot) from his estate. George put out notices for people to come and get it.. Few to no volunteers came to move the stuff out (I do think someone did take something. Was that you, Daniel?). George paid out his own pocket to make arrangements and took most of it to his house, hoping to give it away, and people would not even go to his house to pick it up.
