An alternative to the whole thing is the W.U. 202 type relay.  See
Western Union Technical Review 06-1, January 1952, p. 29.  These relays
were made with banana plug connector pins, so you could use banana jacks
to make a socket, or use a suitable diameter brass tubing to connect to
individial pins.  And these relays were sufficiently highly regarded
that  they were also made in a version plug compatible with the 255A.
Both versions were used in Teletype equipment.
