Looking at the front of the typing unit, the spacing drum is on the right.
On its left side are the two spacing pawls that ratchet it. The carriage
return mechanism lifts both pawls to allow the spring in the left drum to
pull the typebox carriage back.
Teletype engineers were mechanical wizards.
