Oh, also at least with older raspberry pi boards it was possible with a kernel patch against
the "amba-pl011" driver to make the onboard serial port (which shows up as /dev/ttyAMA0) run
at 45 baud. That lets you use it the same way you would one of the dev kit CP210x interfaces.
It's a bit of a pain though because you have to patch, build, and install a new kernel and
also prevent automatic updates from overwriting it. I have one working this way for a while
now but I haven't tried it with a more recent raspberry pi board, which may have different
onboard serial hardware, or none at all for all I know.
