Note - The U-shaped transfer lever is actuated by the punch slides, not the
other way around. So if the U-shaped transfer lever doesn't move, that is
probably not a cause of the problem, but a symptom.
I think John is right in that the punch slide reset bail is not releasing
the selected punch slides to go leftwards. The punch slide latches appear to
be getting rotated CCW by the selector push levers as they should..The
function clutch must be getting released OK or otherwise the typewheel
wouldn't be operating.
So that leaves the punch slide reset bail holding up the punch
slides....The perforator trip lever releases that reset bail via the reset
bail trip lever.
You should be able to rotate the reperf by hand to see if that is the case.
Use a dental pick or the like to activate some punch slide latches.
Following what is happening when motor driven is hard to do - if you take
it off the base and rotate the main shaft by hand, you can pick it up and
look underneath, and clearly see the punch slide reset bail, etc.
Careful reading of the description of operation is essential to
understanding what should happen.
In my mind, the manuals were unfortunately written to
a) act as a guide when getting patient hands-on classroom instruction
b) act as a refresher for folks who are repairing their 85th reperf....
Good luck,
