I'm beginning my ASR 33 restoration journey. Thanks to everyone for the
useful tips that kept me from wrecking the machine! I won't be attempting
to apply power until I've installed a new print hammer (thanks to Wayne for
generously providing me with one), tested and repaired the power supplies,
and cleaned/lubricated the mechanism.
With the cover off, the machine is filthy inside. Hair, congealed grease,
chads, it badly needs a thorough cleaning. Despite all the gunk, the motor
and printer mechanism turn freely by hand.
On cleaning, any suggestions? From what I've read, I can disassemble down
to major units and clean by submerging in Simple Green, then rinsing with
clear water.
For lubrication, white lithium grease and 0W20 synthetic motor oil. Any
other suggestions?
The serial number plate inside the machine says it's CODE UCC-6 SERIAL
007886. I'm curious to know what UCC-6 indicates?
Bob.
