The thyratrons were used mostly in military supplies where they were
operating off locally-generated AC of somewhat uncertain frequency.
For use on commercial power Teletype preferred constant voltage 
transformer supplies, but these are frequency-senstive.  I've also
seen a Model 19 power supply that used magnetic amplifier regulation.
And a Western Union set where a power supply built for W.U. was
used instead of a Teletype supply.
