Not true. Items listed in the generic Facebook Market place can be searched
for and viewed by anyone without signing in.
For example any one who cares to risk venturing onto Facebook can see this
link:-

Its only items listed in specialist closed groups that can't be seen...
... however the Market Place is IMHO a cesspit of rouges, shysters and
scammers. 
Yes there are genuine people on there but finding them can be a challenge.

Craigs List isn't used that much in the UK. 
I much prefer E-Bay myself. Yes there are the odd opportunists out there
with speculative prices, but generally its good stuff.
