[GreenKeys] desktop LPR local loop?

Ok something interesting… I was looking on ebay and saw this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334627438627
And I wondered what this outboard thing is. I googled it and Navy-Radio came back with this https://www.navy-radio.com/manuals/tty/spec/50042s-iss1-6110.pdf
It says, “FEATURES a. With different strapping arrangements, the Driver will accept neutral signals of either 0. 020 or 0. 060 ampere or polar signals of up to 0. 030 ampere. The output is 0. 060 ampere regardless of input. b. The Driver may be strapped so that, when used in conjunction with external contacts, the selector does not respond (is blinded) to certain incoming signals and does respond (is unblinded) to others.”

Could this be exactly what I was wondering about? Maybe Teletype Corp did, indeed, anticipate the needs for what I described?

Thanks Russ. Yes my ASR functions in this way too, you just did a much better job of explaining it!  I am going to pursue a similar idea for the ROTR (thanks, Nick, I knew that was the name but forgot).

Hi Eugene,

I have a Teletype Model 28 ASR on the u-Telex network that operates in a way that is similar to what you are looking to do.

In my machine, the Line Printer (LP) and LPR have their own selector magnet driver (SMD) cards.

The K-KT-T switch either keeps the loop to the LPR in mark hold (in K) or let’s the LPR receive traffic (in KT or T)

Works like a charm when you want to save an incoming message to paper tape.

I find it would be convenient to be able to put the LPR into mark-hold mode while the other machines type away. The question is, am I the only one who thinks a local loop for the desktop LPR would be a useful thing? Did they ever make such a beast? And finally, I assume since it is just mark hold, I could cobble up something simple to provide 60mA where the voltage would not be that critical?

Any thoughts or suggestions?
