[GreenKeys] Casters for M33ASR Pedestals

My solution is generally similar, but was based on materials-on-hand and better skills at woodworking (or at least better tools). I created flats (from old hardwood bed slats) to hold standard swiveling wheels, positioning them to the ends of the pedestal foot (the rear one is actually centered under the rear foot-edge), then attached a wooden plug shaped to snugly fit the hollow pedestal foot. It can easily be removed and replaced, but is sufficiently tight so as to not fall out under any condition other than a bit of brute extraction-force :->.

The wheels are only 0.5”x1.25” diameter, hard plastic, which is sufficient in terms of load-bearing. I had them on-hand and didn’t want to add more height than necessary. Dual-wheels would be a better choice, if available in small-size. Still, these work satisfactorily on the short-nap carpet that you see in the photos; the objective was to be able to turn the equipment around for servicing and to move it a bit for positioning adjacent to other work-in-progress equipment/activities as the need arises. If over the longer-term I want to replace the wheels it’s a straightforward operation (wood screws …) to upgrade as I intentionally ensured that the width of the feet would support a wider wheel-plate in the future.

The add-on stained wooden feet look pretty good in an “office setting” :->.

(Yes, I had to refinish the metal base; used something like a medium battleship gray semi-gloss spray paint that is commonly available. Not exactly period-correct, but then IMO neither is it blatantly incorrect. Simply used 0000 steel wool on the chrome feet, which was sufficient to “knock down” the scattered rust pock-marks while leaving a brushed look. Overall the base certainly doesn’t look “like new”, but at 4-5 foot distance the chrome finish looks pretty reasonable and the paint job looks better than the original condition of the base.)

I just took a closer look at my 33 stand with casters.

Instead of the hollow feet, it appears to have solid

steel bars, 3/4" by 3/4", for the casters.

The bars are 20" long and stick out 2-1/2 inches in

back and 11 inches in front. The casters are very

near each end of the bars.

That being said, Harbor freight has the 16' by 24"

dollies on sale for 20 simoleons instead of 30

from now until March 3rd. I may buy a couple

more.
