Here's the trick for Firefox users at least.  Watch the top line of the 
browser as the page loads you will see an icon appear at the end of the 
field where the URL appears, it's a rectangle with three horizontal 
lines like a piece of printed paper.  Click it for the "Reader View" 
which will show the page without the ads and (surprisingly) the nag 
screen.   You can also toggle it with F9.      Reader View provides a 
clutter-free view of the content without all the annoying ads and other 
stuff and while not all sites support it, the NYT does.
