I received the following e-mail and just got permission to forward it. Eastern South Dakota is a long day's drive from where I live and I don't think a Friden 5610 would fit in my car.
The Smithsonian web page gives the overall dimensions:
I suspect that the dimensions given show the height of the table top, not the height over the top of the Flexowriter.
But note, the Flexowriter can be unplugged from the computer. With it unplugged, you (better, two strong men) can lift it off. This means that you can stow the computer + table in a vehicle and put the Flexowriter on the floor between the table legs. The flexowriter itself weighs 132 pounds. I'd be surprised if the table plus computer weighed less than that, so you're talking about a total shipping weight of close to 300 pounds.
Please reply to Rob Mader, not to me!

Subject: [External] Friden 5610 computer
Hello Mr Jones, I was wondering if you know of anyone that would have an interest in purchasing a Friden 5610 Paper Tape computer. My dad bought the one that his company had used for payroll when he left in the mid 1970's. It was working for years in our basement, then got put away for a LONG time. It has accumulated ALOT of dust, dirt and debris so I would not be willing to power it on until thoroughly cleaned.
I read your paper on the Flexowriter and I see that there is a 5610 at the National Museum of American History but I am hoping that someone may be interested in this machine. Would you happen to know of anyone to contact about the computer or have any thoughts on a place that might be interested in it? If so, I would greatly appreciate it. My dad has now entered his mid 80's and won't be around much longer. I hate to see it just sent to the scrap yard. I believe he also has paper tapes and other miscellaneous parts and supplies. Currently, this computer is located in eastern South Dakota.
Thank you for your time and any assistance,
Rob Mader
