[GreenKeys] M28 RT & LAXD

Finally got the 48VDC supply (thanks Nick!) wired in and all the jumpers
wired on to the 32 pin LAXD1 plug.  Installed a small toggle sw in the
32 pin plug cover to control the tape clutch magnet. Can punch tape at
200wpm and read it at 100wpm now!

three problems remaining:

1. In rewiring the 32 pin plug, pin 2 (data bit 5) broke off, so I'll
have to jumper it on the bottom of the receptacle.

2.  When I run the LAXD1 tape reader with no tape in it (holding down
tape-out pin), it transmits "K" (11110) which is understandable since
5th bit is open on the 32 pin plug.  Running a blank tape, it transmits
"N" (00110) which says bits 3 & 4 (cant tell about 5) are stuck on.  I'm
not familiar with any of the M28 tape readers and the LAXD manual (251B)
is not clear on what happens between the pins that read the tape and the
distributor.  I am going to have to pull the LAXD to see what is going
on under there. In the meantime, is there any other manual that shows
what is supposed to be happening on the bottom of the LAXD with the data
pins?

3.  The LRXB base has a three speed gear shift for the LAXD: 75, 100, &
60WPM. It is stuck on 100wpm (middle position).  I loosed the screws on
the "keybar" and the keybar moves, but I can't get the gears to move in
either direction.  It looks like the only way to remove the "Shift Gear
Assembly Shaft" is to have the gears slide off of it, but they seem
stuck. I didn't want to put penetrating oil in between the gears and the
shaft without being able to remove it after I get the gears loose. But
maybe I shouldn't worry about the penetrating oil?  Any ideas?

Thanks,

Duncan
