Virgil,
I know that you are a good man, but I did not know you were a Teletype man!
That is a nice clean looking machine inside. I am sure you know you can get
any help you need here from people here who know a lot more about 28''s
than I do.
I have a 28KSR skintight that is in perfect condition and an ASR that was
pretty sad when I bought it. I got the keyboard working then got the
printer typing nice even lines. I also had to fix the wiring on the break
key and the bell. The TD is fine but the keyboard perforator is very flaky.
I also have two KSR's not unlike yours that I am fighting with. There is no
heat in my radio building and winter has finally come here in western
Pennsylvania. So it will be spring before I can work on them again.
W9DDD,
Instead of modifying my W.U. KSR cabinet in any way, I have mounted a
mercury relay on the wall. I am free to patch the coil into any of my loops
and the contacts are plugged into the local loop on the W.U. LESU. I know I
cannot type into the loop but to me that is preferable to butchering any
wiring in the cabinet. Anyway, the spacebar that tried to fix still does
not work. Comparing it to a good keyboard, there some parts missing from
the spacebar. So I will put the keyboard with the bad spacebar on the W.U.
cabinet and the good base in the cabinet the has no LESU. That just leaves
me with getting two typing units working.
One of them works but eats nylon gears. I tried to buy a fiber and metal
set from Mr. RTTY but he only has the nylon sets. The other typing unit is
the one with a stuntbox problem. I guess I will have to pull it off and
hope I can get it back on again.
