I was able to repair my backup ST-8000A and have put it into service - it had a bad power switch. That’s surprising because the switch seems heavy duty.   I had it in the rack ready to go at a moment's notice, but never actually tried powering it on to see if it was still working. Test your backup equipment regularly!

I still hope to diagnose the ST-8000A which was in service until it died with the number 8 on the display.
