 Harold -
Glad you liked it!
This is a nit-picky point, but IBM *did* use 6-bit BCD before they came up with 8-bit EBCDIC...  I don't think EBCDIC was used until 1964 with the introduction of the System/360.

Fun to watch! Note that they convert the incoming 5 level code to a
"binary coded decimal" code used by the computer. This, of course, is
EBCDIC ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EBCDIC ), which I have not thought
about in a long time!

The video of the torn tape room was fun! They did not really explain the
routing of messages. Their route map seemed to imply there was a single
circuit covering several cities. Were all cities monitoring this line and
only printing what was addressed to them? Was there any switching at the
intermediate cities, or did everything go through HQ?

Fun stuff! Now back to working on my Webcor wire recorder...

Harold
