Roy,
Are you sure it was 800Hz?I have some aircraft instruments and they all use 400Hz.This is why I started looking into VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) AKA inverters.

INTERESTING!!
Early WW-II Navy aircraft carried the GO-9 LF/HF transmitter that ran on 115v 800 cycle AC, provided by an 800-1 rotary inverter. These inverters are now unobtainable.
I wonder if there are variable speed inverters as affordable as the one linked below that produce 800 cycle output.

Joe,
The easiest way to change the speed is use a single phase variable speed inverter. This would require no modification to the teletype.https://www.ebay.com/itm/121462713601?hash=item1c47bded01:g:HP4AAOSw8lxg7UK2
This device takes 60Hz input and you set the output to any frequency you like.

I have a European machine that runs on 220v 50hz and the motor speed is 2000 rpm.
Of course on 60hz 220v it runs faster than 2000 rpm ...
