That guy offered me the 28 ASR for $299.
A. Michigan would be a 1200 mile round trip for me.
B. I would never pay that much for a machine in "rough" condition.
At least "Most of the keys don't work" means he has no idea what a loop
supply is.
I bought a 28 ASR for $100 - guaranteed to have original wiring. It took me
two months to get the keyboard to work after my local ex-Navy 28 repairman
gave up on it. To get it to type with an even baseline took me two years.
It took me hours to get the break key to work. Someone had cut several
wires from the base connector and hidden the cut ends, In fact all the
wiring had been badly butchered.
Then the motor went bad. (now replaced)
Next I need to trace out the wiring to get the the bell to work..
The perforator has never worked right..
No, I would never pay $299 for one in unknown condition! $100 was too much.
I am watching both just to see if someone has more money than brains.
I bought a 28 TD in pretty rough condition from eBay for $48. If nothing
else, I can use case parts from it to finish off my own TD. If I can get
the motor to work, I will have gotten myself a deal.
I hope to dicker with him on an ROTR and two 28 KSR's. But now he doesn't
want to communicate with me - not even to set a day and time to pick up the
paid for TD.
Oh, the fun of buying Teletypes!
At least my 15 kit and two 28 KSR kits were free - for a $140 in gas and
$60 so far to Mr. RTTY.
