My friend James O'Neal has a daughter who works for a company that locates
props for shows. Some company wanted to do a TV show about the Lone
Ranger, and wanted a period radio set to show a family listening to a
broadcast. So his daughter contacted him and he agreed to furnish one - I
don't know what stipulations about caring for it. Then they also wanted a
vintage microphone for a studio scene. He has some of those but said they
are extremely valuable and the only way he would supply one would be if
they would pay him to accompany the mike and watch over it until they were
ready to return it. Which they agreed to, and then since they were paying
him anyway to sit there they cast him as the announcer. Something he had
experience doing from his youth at the home town AM radio station.

If you want to see the result google for Legends and Lies Bass Reeves.

A happier story came from my friend and Teletype retiree Bill Lill. I
think it was PBS, and they wanted a Model 19 for some show and somehow
got in touch with Bill who had one. Believe he said they gave the
machine a fresh paint job, and flew him and his wife to the place where
the show was being produced. And returned it in good condition.
