Following up on this, I've been helping Bob with the ST-6000. It had a bad
divide by 10 counter in the tone generator, so that is now working!

Looking at
https://ftp.elecraft.com/K4/Manuals%20Downloads/K4%20Built-In%20Operating%20Manual,%20rev%20C10.pdf#page=75
, it appears the K4 should be put in AFSK mode to use audio from the
ST-6000 to the K4 Line In connector. Is that correct? I assume the AFSK
mode puts it in LSB and pulls audio from Line In (of course, there is also
a setting to pull audio from USB instead, but we want the analog Line In
https://ftp.elecraft.com/K4/Manuals%20Downloads/K4%20Built-In%20Operating%20Manual,%20rev%20C10.pdf#page=40
).

I see at
https://ftp.elecraft.com/K4/Manuals%20Downloads/K4%20Built-In%20Operating%20Manual,%20rev%20C10.pdf#page=54
that when in AFSK mode, the K4 displays the mark frequency instead of the
LSB suppressed carrier frequency (which it displays in Data mode).

So far, I'm thinking Bob needs to do the following:

1. Connect ST-6000 audio out to the K4 Line In connector.

2. Connect the ST-6000 audio in to the K4 Line Out connector.

3. Connect the ST-6000 Keyboard Operated Relay output to the K4 PTT
connector.

4. Configure the K4 to use Line In for the AFSK mode (not USB).

6. Adjust either the ST-6000 output level or the transceiver audio input
gain for an ALC level just below 5.

To get on our 20 meter autostart frequency, the K4 would be set to
transmit AFSK on 14.083,875 MHz.

I think the ST-6000 should have autostart on. Besides motor control, this
also provides mark hold in the absence of an RTTY signal, avoiding the
printing of garbage due to noise. To bring up the Keyboard Operated Relay
in the ST-6000 when the printer motor is not running, momentarily hit the
break key. That will bring up the KOR and the motor.
